Attended my first but hopefully not my last exhibition last night in Blantyre.
We don't get much big time darts in the West of Scotland apart from the PL & Jocky Wilson Cup so when I saw an exhibition featuring Manley & Lewis I thought I'd go along to check it out.
It was a top night & from my sober point of view (had to drive) the crowd looked to have had a great night.
When the players arrived they spent the first hour signing autographs & taking photos although the photos went on all night night & not once did either player refuse or ignore anybody. I have been in the company of many sportsmen in the past mainly footballers & snooker players, some are good guys, others complete arrogant prats - both Manley & Lewis were top blokes. They were always mingling with the crowd when they weren't throwing, standing at the bar having a drink & generally just having a laugh - 2 guys just like anybody else who want to have a few drinks & a giggle but happened to be very talented at darts. my mate who is mostly just a PL/ Worlds viewer of darts even commented on how down to earth both players were, he had said previously Lewis came across on TV as arrogant & he didn't have much time for Manley but his attitudes toward both greatly changed last night.
Some of the shots these players can produce is top notch & fair play to 12 punters who gave them a game. I have to admit I bottled it to play but I think next time I would give it a go. You can tell Manley had been doing the exhibition circuit for a long time as he was so comfortable with the crowd as he would regularly grab the mic & tell a few jokes.
Highlights of the night include Manley taking out a 136, Lewis taking out 6 with 3 x double 1 & Manley singing Flower Of Scotland. All in all a fantastic night & a big thanks to tart180 for organizing the event & here's hoping they are a few more in the pipeline. Looking forward to the next one where I hopefully won't be driving.
